Mini-Grant Awards were discontinued in 2013.
The Delta Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute, a non-profit organization headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, is comprised of six (6) parishes in the metropolitan area: Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, and St. Tammany.
The organization is committed to K-12 education and to that end has chosen several ways of supporting that commitment. The members, all involved in some way in the energy industry, have recognized the untiring efforts of public school teachers who continue to deliver quality services to students with minimal compensation and inadequate resources.
As of 2011, API-Delta Chapter has awarded almost $130,000 to veteran and new teachers in the public schools of the metropolitan area over the past 20 years, recognizing teachers’ commitment to quality teaching, resourcefulness, professional involvement and community service. The national API organization provides a service to teachers who, upon request, can receive free resources for their classrooms.
The Delta Chapter of API maintains a commitment to provide improved educational opportunities for children in the community not only by honoring exemplary teachers but also by continuing its support of the Louisiana Children’s Museum with a permanent exhibit. It also provides monetary support and volunteers to LCM’s annual Super Science Saturday and the Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair, both occurring in the spring each year.
