8th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament - 2012

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

This past April, the API Delta Chapter celebrated its 8th annual Father/Son & Family Sporting Clays Tournament. Despite challenging industry and economic conditions, we had great support from our sponsors, shooters, and volunteers. 40 teams participated on a great weekend at Covey Rise Lodge in Husser, Louisiana. We were blessed once again this year with beautiful weather. Average temperatures combined with a nice breeze made for a comfortable day. API Delta Chapter was very pleased to offer a fun and safe event for our industry families. As always, it is rewarding to see parents and their children spend quality time together while competing with friends and colleagues.

The tournament has become a unique event to the oilfield community in the New Orleans area. It emphasizes and encourages participation from all members of the family. In addition to the Father/Son teams, the tournament also awards top shooters in the Ladies Class, Individual, and Four Man teams. Our annual clay shoot and golf tournament provide the Delta Chapter with the majority of its funding. Consequently, industry support is vital to our philanthropic efforts. The past successes of these two events have allowed our Chapter to increase donations to a variety of opportunities and needs in the community, including our scholarship awards program which places special emphasis on education related to the oil field industry.

Much appreciation goes to our industry supporters. Obviously, an event like this cannot succeed without their financial support. This year we had 2 Gold, 8 Silver, 7 Bronze, and 4 Shirt Sponsors along with 20 food & station sponsors. Similarly, we recognize and thank the many volunteers who made this event fun and safe for the rest of us. Just as important are these behind-the-scenes volunteers who handle the work of cooking, registering, scoring, and picking up.

This year's tournament was directed once again by Bob Bailey. He and his tournament committee volunteers, most of whom have contributed to past tournament success, faithfully carried on our established tradition. Special recognition goes to Barbara Edmonds, our API Board of Directors Secretary. Each year she helps the committee handle the vigorous challenges of registration that an event this size presents. In Bob's own words, "This year's tournament was once again quite a success due to the efforts of the committee along with great support from the many sponsors and participants. It was a beautiful day for shooting sports and I am grateful to everyone who came out to participate. Fun was had by all. My sincerest thanks to everyone whose involvement helps make this a great tournament."
