The API Delta Chapter tournament has become a unique event to the oilfield community in New Orleans since it emphasizes and encourages participation from all members of the family. In addition to the Father/Son teams, the tournament also awards top shooters in the Ladies Class, Individual, and Four Man teams. Our annual clay shoot and golf tournaments provide the Delta Chapter with the majority of its funding. Consequently, industry support is vital to our philanthropic efforts. The past successes of these two events have allowed our Chapter to increase donations to a variety of opportunities and needs in the community. For 2009, we increased our scholarship awards budget from $12,000 to $20,000. Where appropriate we try to maximize impact for our membership with a special emphasis on education.
Much appreciation goes to our industry supporters. Obviously, an event like this cannot succeed without their financial support. This year we had 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze Sponsors along with 23 food & station sponsors. Similarly, we recognize and thank the many volunteers who made this event fun and safe for the rest of us. Just as important are these behind-the-scenes volunteers who handle the work of cooking, registering, scoring, and picking up.
This year’s tournament was directed by Bob Bailey. He and his tournament committee volunteers, most of whom contributed to the past tournament successes, faithfully carried on our established tradition. Special recognition goes to Barbara Edmonds, our BOD secretary. She stepped in this year to help the committee handle the vigorous challenges of organization and registration that an event this size presents. In Bob’s words, “this year’s tournament went off without a hitch and was quite a success due to the efforts of the committee along with great support from the many sponsors and participants. Fun was had by all and I am looking forward to next year’s event. My sincerest thanks and appreciation go out to all for their involvement in helping make this year’s tournament happen.”
