League Competition Once again, API – Delta participated as a Gold Sponsor for the FIRST LEGO League and Junior FIRST Lego League competitions. This year the Louisiana championship tournament was held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Dominican High School.

Fifty-six teams participated in the competition. Children, ages 9-14, were judged on robot design, project research and teamwork. Junior competitors, ages 6 – 9, participated in research and teamwork competitions. This year’s theme was “Smart Move”. The challenge involved accessing people, places, goods and services in the safest, most efficient way possible. Teams considered the many modes of transportation beyond their daily routine and streamlined their options by making smart moves.

Thanks are extended to the many industry organizations and volunteers that participated. API volunteers included Cathy Vaughn and Steve Strain. COPAS and Young Professionals volunteers also participated.

The 2010 FLL Challenge will be “Body Forward: Engineering Meets Medicine”. In this challenge 9-14 year olds will explore the cutting edge world of Biomedical Engineering to discover innovative ways to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions and maximize the body’s potential, with the intended purpose of leading happier and healthier lives.
