The 2009 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair were held March 4 -5th at the University of New Orleans. API sponsored the senior design projects. The winner of the Chairman’s Award was Jean Amador from the Patrick F. Taylor Science School with the project “The Heat is On; The Effect of Fuel Additives on the Amount on Heat Generated by Ethanol”. He along with his science teacher, Janell Simpson, received a check for $150 and his school received $300.
The winner of Distinguished Project Award was Josh Hanberry from John Curtis Christian School for “Which Paint Best Protects Carbon Steel From Rust in a Salt Water Environment?” He received a check for $100 along with his science teacher, Cathy Boucvalt, and his school received $200.
The winner of the Honorable Mention Award was Nicola Zanchi from Benjamin Franklin High School for “The Most Effective Sorbent in Neutralizing Oil in Saltwater”. She along with her teacher, Davis-Wheeler, received a check for $50 and her school $100.
