API Sporting Clays Event allocates More Scholarships in 2009

The 4th Annual Father-Son & Family Sporting Clays Tournament Sponsored by API Delta Chapter of New Orleans hosted over 6oo participants and guests on April 26th. The event was held in the traditional setting of Covey Rise Lodge in Husser, LA. "This year's event has doubled in size since we started sponsoring the event four years ago", said Jan Catalano, Delta Chapter Chairperson." "Given the enormous support from the oil & gas community for this event it seems only fitting that we propose increasing the number of scholarships in 2009" she said.

In prior years the tournament participated in assisting the general funding of educational programs and scholarships driven by the New Orleans API Delta Chapter. Since the inception of the tournament, support is so grand that the tournament is now a significant contributor to offer scholarships to member family students in all levels of the education process. "We have a great drive to support our industry and we are very excited to offer additional scholarships to Delta Chapter families requesting assistance" said Ken Meyers, Delta Chapter 1st Vice President. I am amazed at how much conversation goes on about this event year round, plus the expanding geographic coverage it reaches. Shooters of all ages are attracted to this tournament given its traditional family values and good clean fun, he added.

This year's tournament was again directed by Gary Johnson of ENI and a host of oil and gas industry contributors and volunteers. "If you don't shoot in this event every year you are out of the loop when it comes to sporting clays tournaments, Johnson said. The tournament filled up in a short time period and we had to send out regrets to several teams. Maybe next year there will be more spots, but more importantly I want to thank all the volunteers for the generous contribution of their time, he concluded.

Sponsorships this year generously provided for numerous door prizes and flight prizes through out the event. Sponsors also contributed to manning each shooting station and provided food for the all guest through out the day of the event. A giant sponsor board was displayed recognizing all sponsors providing support to the tournament. Robert Bailey of Gulf Production of Covington will take the lead as Tournament Director in 2009, replacing Gary Johnson who has moved to Lafayette.

The API Delta Chapter Tournament is a unique tournament to the Oil Field Community in New Orleans since it emphasizes and encourages participation from all members of the family. In addition to the Father/Son teams, the tournament also awards top shooters in the Ladies Class, Individual and Four Man teams.

In 2009 the Tournament will be held on the "last" week end of April. The event has contracted with Covey Rise Lodge to again hold the two day program in the same location held this year. Teams participating in this year's event are grandfathered for next year unless registration deadlines are missed. At that point teams on the waiting list will be invited to participate on a first come bases. Notices for the 2009 event will go out in late December of this year. Any individual or company interested in participating can contact Robert Bailey 2009 Tournament Director.

The API Delta Chapter of New Orleans extends a large gratitude of thanks to the sponsors, workers and volunteers that made the 2008 event a tremendous success.
