Earth Science Activities for Elementary Classrooms

8:30am-3:30pm

Teachers who attend this session will be able to reserve the Playing with Petroleum Kit for a period up to 10 days for their classroom use by attending a this workshop. The Playing with Petroleum Kit is a FREE traveling classroom exhibit that brings hydrocarbon-based energy education to your students in a multidisciplinary format. Curriculum in the kit is correlated to State and National Standards.

Playing with Petroleum Kit Objectives:

Describe how sediments are formed and their importance

Describe how microfossils are important to geologists

Describe the importance of petroleum in our daily lives and objects made from petroleum

Identify how petroleum is formed and what organisms become petroleum

Understand the commitment of the oil industry in protecting the environment

Workshop at no cost to teachers in the Greater New Orleans Region.

Sessions will be held at Tulane. FREE parking in the Loyola parking garage has been arranged. andrea.walker@gnostem.org for information

API-Delta Announces 2016-2017 Scholarship Winners

The American Petroleum Institute - Delta Chapter Scholarship Committee recently announced the winners of this year's President's Scholarship Award for 2016-2017 school year.

The American Petroleum Institute - Delta Chapter will offer scholarships for 2017-2018. The goal of the API - Delta Chapter scholarship program is to help students of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education. Scholarships are awarded for a wide variety of experiences, career goals and higher education plans. Candidates pursuing careers in Math, Science and Engineering will be given a higher preference....

2017 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF)

2017 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair!

The Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) is growing this year with 2 judging dates on Tuesday, February 14th (Junior Division) and Wednesday, February 15th (Senior Division), 2017, and we are in need of judges! It will be at the University of New Orleans (UNO) Human Performance Center at 2000 Lakeshore Drive and is open to 6th-12th grade students in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes.

Category judging will take place on both days from 8am-noon and separate Grand Award judging will follow right after lunch, which is being provided. Please consider judging for us on either or both of these dates. And if you are not available in the morning, please consider judging for the Grand Award winners from the top two projects in each category.

If you can volunteer as a judge, please sign up at http://gnosef.tulane.edu/judgeform.cfm. You will be asked to identify the date(s) you are available and the categories in which you have expertise. You will also have an opportunity to indicate if you are interested in volunteering to judge at local school fairs that occur in December and January. If you are not available to judge at the GNOSEF, but would like to volunteer in another capacity over the course of the 4-day event - February 13-16, 2017.
