On the weekend of December 3rd 2011, the Holy Cross High School robotics team participated in the southern regional championships in robotics. The team was sponsored by the Delta Section of the API. Holy Cross sent a large delegation of students and finished 24th in the competition.
The Delta Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute recently awarded a $500 grant to three Jefferson Parish School Teachers. The recipients were Ms. Kerrie Slaton, Jefferson Community School in Harahan; Ms. Conchetta Tillery, Live Oak Manor in Waggaman and Ms. Janice Catledge, Gretna No. 2 Academy in Gretna.
Thanks to API-Delta member support, API-Delta once again was able to be a Gold Sponsor for the 9th Annual FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and Junior FIRST LEGO League tournament. This year, the event was held at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans on Saturday, December 10, 2011.
Louisiana Department of Natural Resource (DNR) Secretary Scott Angelle was the key note speaker at the November joint society luncheon. Twenty-three energy related societies and associations joined to host the sold out event.
The 2011 API Delta Chapter Golf tournament held on September 16th at the Covington Country Club was a huge success!! This year, 47 teams participate in the tournament. There were plenty of cool beverages and delicious hot food to make this a most enjoyable event. The weather was exceptionally nice and the course was in great shape. The API Golf Committee would like to thank everyone involved in helping make the 2011 API Delta Chapter Golf Tournament a success!
As many of you know, the Carville Job Corps Academy is run by MINACT Incorporated (www.minact.com). MINACT's contract to operate the center came up for renewal last month. A few weeks ago, the Department of Labor informed MINACT that MINACT had not been awarded the contract to continue to operate the center.
In an effort to promote energy education, API-Delta and SPE-Delta pooled resources to host a teacher workshop in Oil and Natural Gas Education. Teachers from the Greater New Orleans area spent a week of their summer vacation attending the Denver Earth Science Project Workshop developed by the Colorado School of Mines.
